Thoughts please. Last summer we had a problem with a number of families who would forget to pack or refuse to supply a sunhat..
So we're thinking of buying a pile and giving one to each child to be kept at our centre. Has anyone else done this? How did you go about charging parents for a hat or did you just cover the cost yourself?

Hi We purchased hats for all the children as part of their Christmas gift. We are a home based service so may be a little easier to monitor. Many of our Educators keep these in the home environment for the children to have when in care. But having some spare's around is always a good option :-) :)

We have a mixture of both, families provide sunhats that children either keep in their bags or store in the hat basket, and we have purchased hats with our logo on for the children to use. We have found that mostly the children will wear our hats, and the option to have their own is their as well. We have consulted with our comunity of families and they are all aware of the necessity to wear hats outside. If they specifically ask that their child only wears their own hat then we respect that. it works well.
