Several early childhood home and centre-based services have mentioned a problem they have when parents who are receiving a WINZ subsidy for childcare fees do not inform them that their income has lifted and so they are no longer eligible for the subsidy.
They are told by WINZ that they can recover the debt from the parent and that this isn’t the responsibility of WINZ.
There is a risk of the arrears in fees building up, making recovery difficult.
Another issue is that cash-flow can be seriously affected in services especially services which cater for a lot of low-income families who get the childcare subsidy.
Here’s some information to help you pre-empt the problem of waiting till the end of a month for a WINZ subsidy and then suddenly finding it doesn’t come because you knew nothing about a change in WINZ eligibility.
